Unwrapping God's Gift of Revelation:
Session 9: Unwrapping the Gift of Value
Revelation 21:18-22

     Well, not quite.
It’s only April. Or is it April already. Three months (one quarter) of 2009 is down the tubes. Blink your eyes and we’ll be singing ‘Jingle bells’ and ‘O, Holy Night’ and wondering where the year went. But at least you’ve accomplished everything you had planned on doing on your New years to-do list. Right?
In case you’re wondering, yes, I am trying to depress you on purpose.
     Why?
Because the book of Revelation provides us with a happy ending to this sad, tragic story we call our world.
Revelation chapter 19 starting at verse 11 shows Christ returning and overthrowing the corrupt nations of this world. Chapter 20 shows Him setting up His earthly rule for a thousand years and dealing with Satan and those who rejected Christ.
Chapter 21 is looking at our eternal home, New Jerusalem: That beautiful painless, sin-free city that should motivate us to endure this life a little longer.
     Enjoy!

Opening Discussion

-Which of your possessions do you consider most valuable?

Reading

Here is this week’s study passage.
Please pray before you begin.

Revelation 21:18-22 (CJB)

18 The wall was made of diamond and the city of pure gold resembling pure glass.

19 The foundations of the city wall were decorated with all kinds of precious stones-the first foundation stone was diamond, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald,

20 the fifth sardonyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh turquoise and the twelfth amethyst.

21 The twelve gates were twelve pearls, with each gate made of a single pearl. The city's main street was pure gold, transparent as glass.

22 I saw no Temple in the city, for ADONAI, God of heaven's armies, is its Temple, as is the Lamb.

Forgiven Again?

The book is coming along well, and every day Jay and I find our passion and excitement for it increasing. We both know God will use the book to reach people for Christ and to heal relationships, and the sooner the better.
However, writing a man’s life is a long process and my ’normal’ job has been picking up for the summer.
Opportunities to write (both the newsletter and the book) are becoming fewer.
I do not wish to give up this newsletter. Please join me in prayer as I endeavor to be faithful in producing both.

Technique Focus #17
Meditation– Scripture

Read a verse. Reread it. Reword it. Roll it around in your head for a while.
What do the words mean? Are there more than one definition? How are they used?
Dwelling on scripture can help you understand it.

Meditate on Scripture

Mr. Dave’s Corner

Is your focus on the physical or the spiritual?
Do you look at the list of jewels in this week’s passage and think “That’s not my idea of a dream home. Why would I want to live there?”
When Paul speaks of his visit to heaven in 2 Corinthians 12:1-4, he says “How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.” (12:4)
This means that there are no possible human words that can even begin to do justice to the beauty, glory, and majesty that we will see and experience in Heaven. The closest we can come is to look at the best God has provided in our world, and to realize that what awaits us will be infinitely better than that.
In short New Jerusalem will be the most spectacular sight that anyone has ever seen.
